[All snapshots](/data/carriers/archive) ## Analysis · as of August 1, 2026 ### Highlights - FedEx Corporation logged 3,251 crashes over the trailing 60 months, more than any other carrier in the dataset, yet its crash rate was only 0.02 per power unit. - The top carrier on the 'largest fleet' leaderboard, Reliable Transporters, reports 2,099,979 power units against just 2 drivers, a ratio that signals data quality issues rather than operational scale. - Every carrier in the top 25 of the largest-fleet leaderboard carries an authority age of zero years, and all operate as intrastate non-hazmat or similarly limited classifications. - Datajo Trucking LLC recorded 18.1 violations per inspection across 10 inspections, with an out-of-service rate of 90%, the worst violation ratio in the dataset. - Transco Leasing Co Inc grew its reported fleet from 27 to 2,106 power units, a 7,700% increase, the largest percentage gain among the fastest-growing carriers. The most counterintuitive pattern across these leaderboards is the near-total separation between raw crash counts and crash rates per unit among the largest carriers. Federal Express Corporation leads all carriers with 3,251 crashes over the trailing 60 months and 92 fatalities, yet its crashes-per-unit ratio sits at 0.02 across a fleet of 138,481 power units. United Parcel Service, second by crash count at 2,276, also registers 0.02 crashes per unit across 112,321 power units. By contrast, Western Express Inc and NJ Transit Corporation each reach 0.19 crashes per unit, nearly ten times the rate, on fleets of 3,332 and 2,394 power units respectively. These divergences are consistent with exposure effects at scale: larger fleets accumulate more absolute events even when operational practices hold crash rates low, while smaller carriers with elevated per-unit rates may reflect narrower route profiles, urban operating environments, or inspection selection bias rather than systematically worse safety performance. The violation-ratio leaderboard is dominated by very small operators. TF Transport Services LLC, ranked second, recorded 235 violations across only 13 inspections for a ratio of 18.08 per inspection, with a 100% out-of-service rate. Fourteen of the top 25 carriers by violation ratio are based in Texas, and several registrants carry state codes corresponding to Mexican states (SO, SI, TA), reflecting the dataset's inclusion of cross-border operators with active US DOT numbers. This geographic concentration likely reflects both inspection patterns near border crossings and the composition of carriers operating in that corridor. The largest-fleet leaderboard is effectively unusable as a proxy for operational scale. Every entry in the top 25 shows an authority age of zero years, and the reported unit counts range from 400,000 to over 2 million for entities with one to twelve drivers. These figures are consistent with systematic data entry errors or placeholder values in FMCSA registration records, not with actual fleet ownership. The fastest-growing list includes recognizable corporate entities alongside smaller carriers. Victory Driveaway Inc added 27,576 units to reach 28,500, a 2,984% increase, the largest absolute gain in the dataset. General Motors LLC and Procter and Gamble Inc also appear, suggesting that corporate restructuring or FMCSA registration updates for captive fleets can surface as apparent growth events.
